Family history has it that in Liverpool during WWII my grandmother and her infant daughter were turned away from hospital essentially because “there’s a war on”. The baby died of pneumonia. Is there evidence/research for this sort of thing being widespread?

In the movie “the post“, after the Washington Post printed the Pentagon papers, but before the Supreme Court ruled in their favor, it was shown that other newspapers hat also supported the post by printing excerpts from the Pentagon papers. Was that true? Where did they get the papers to publish?
